One of the worst parts about the first trimester is the dreaded morning sickness aka all-day sickness. Truthfully, it is what makes the first trimester the hardest and worst three months of pregnancies for me. Being able to manage morning sickness symptoms can help you get through the day and survive a little bit better without everyone knowing you’re expecting. Here are the best natural remedies I have found to help get rid of morning sickness during pregnancy.

Sea bands are an acupressure wrist band that will push on the Nei Kuan point which helps relieve nausea and vomiting. While they are not the most fashionable wrist accessory, they can provide relief without having to take any oral medication that may affect your baby. It’s simple to find the pressure point and you can leave it on for as long as you’d like.

I didn’t learn about these until my second pregnancy and man, I wish I had known sooner! Having one of these on really helped curb nausea during the first trimester. This became a staple accessory for me in the first few months.

Most people correlate ginger with helping nausea but mostly offer up ginger ale. While ginger ale is helpful, it’s also usually filled with a ton of sugar and a small amount of ginger. I found that drinking ginger tea throughout my day would completely eliminate my nausea. Ginger tea by itself is honestly not the best tasting but if you play around with some additions to it, it can be a good tasting tea. Here is how I made my ginger tea:

Nausea Relief Ginger Tea Ingredients:

  • 1 fresh ginger root (peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks)
  • 5 cups water

Optional:

  • lemon
  • honey
  • cinnamon
  1. In a saucepan, add the ginger chunks and water and bring to a simmer. Let the ginger simmer for at least 20 minutes. If you would like a stronger ginger flavor, you can leave it in for up to an hour.
  2. Discard the chunks of ginger and pour into a glass. This should make about 5 servings.
  3. Depending on your preference, you can add juice from ½ a lemon, a teaspoon of honey or a sprinkle of cinnamon. Or all three, it’s up to you!
  4. Store the remainder in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Essential oils are my favorite way to help ease nausea during pregnancy. They smell great and as soon as the scent hits my nose, I feel a lot better. I created a roller that I apply right behind my ears and I will just get little hints of the smell throughout the day. I did not leave the house without my nausea roller! There are a variety of scents that work well with morning sickness so I just made one with the oils I had on hand. Feel free to use what you have or what smells the best for you.

Anti-Nausea Essential Oil Roller:

  • 10 drops Peppermint
  • 5 drops Spearmint
  • 5 drops Lemon
  • 5 drops Lime
  • Fractionated coconut oil

Add each of these oils to your roller and fill the rest with a carrier oil like coconut, almond, or jojoba oil.

Other oils that help with morning sickness:

  • Ginger
  • Bergamot
  • Lavender

Best Activity For Nausea During Pregnancy

I know when you feel like complete garbage and could throw up at any minute the last thing you want to do is exercise. It sounds like the least productive thing you could possibly do, and I hear you. However, if I just got on my exercise mat and started doing some stretches, I almost always started to feel better and would then move into a workout. Some days, I just stretched and that’s fine but most days I started to feel the nausea lift, my headache subsided, and my energy increased. Also, laying on the couch and thinking about how nauseous you are will absolutely make it worse so getting up and focusing on something else will help.
